Organizers say there are currently only two teams signed up, but 15 teams are needed to ensure there is enough chili for the tasting segment on October 17. The competition is open to friends, family, workplace, school groups, or community organizations, with adult and youth divisions available. First-place winners will take home a $600 cash prize, with a $400 prize for second place. Runners must register by September 27 to guarantee they receive a race shirt.  The Bridge Day 5K will bring runners to the New River Gorge Bridge for the annual event.  Organizers say the race is limited to 600 runners, so participants are encouraged to sign up soon.  #FayetteCounty #WOAY

The child's parents filed a lawsuit naming the school bus driver, Valley PK-8 principal, the student's teacher, and the Fayette County Board of Education as defendants.  According to the complaint, the parents completed transportation paperwork before the school year began, specifying their child would be picked up by a parent on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The complaint states the student would ride the school bus to the parent's workplace in Montgomery on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  #FayetteCounty #WOAY

The hike, guided by local expert Mitchell Dech, is all about spotting and foraging wild edible plants, trees, buds, and flowers that grow in our region. Kessinger says the city has faced financial challenges from the buyout for years. According to a statement from the Mayor, the properties are subject to federal deed restrictions, with Fayette County holding the restricted deeds. The buyout also reportedly eliminated about 102 water and sewer customers, while the city remained responsible for debt on the sewer system built to serve the area. #FayetteCounty #WOAY

Vest brings more than 40 years of public safety and administrative experience to the legislature, including more than three decades with the West Virginia corrections system. The Fayette County Office of Emergency Management is providing free hot meals and water daily from 12:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Robson Freewill Baptist Church. Portable showers, internet access, device charging, and flood cleanup supplies are also available.  The Sheriff’s Department is delivering food and water to residents cut off by the collapsed road in Mulberry Fork, while the county organizes volunteers to help until the road can be repaired.  Cleanup supplies are also available at the Armstrong Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Pax Town Hall and the Fayette County 911 Center in Fayetteville.  #FayetteCounty #WOAY

U.S. Attorney Moore Capito says a federal grand jury indicted 36-year-old David Elliott Pritt on charges of sexual exploitation of a child, coercion and enticement of a child, and witness tampering.  According to the indictment, the alleged offenses occurred between March 2024 and January 2026 and involved a minor female and the use of the internet and cellular networks.  #FayetteCounty #WOAY
