Students can still attend Nicholas County High School, Summersville Middle School, Richwood Middle or High School, regardless of where they live.   However, those students will now need to use designated pickup and drop-off locations at Gauley River or Panther Creek Elementary.   Families will be responsible for getting students to those locations in the morning, where they will board a bus to Richwood or Summersville.   #NicholasCounty #WOAY

According to the Wilderness Fire Department, the first crash happened just after 12:30 Tuesday morning when emergency crews responded to a UTV crash on Old Nicholas Road near Bruce Road in Mount Nebo. One person died at the scene, while a second person with serious injuries was taken to Summersville Regional Medical Center.  Then, just after 1:20 Tuesday afternoon, crews responded to a two-vehicle crash on Wilderness Highway in Mount Nebo. One person was killed in that crash. #NicholasCounty #WOAY

When firefighters arrived, Richwood Police had already searched with K-9 units and requested drone assistance.  Search teams quickly expanded operations, bringing in thermal drones, additional K-9 teams, and multiple agencies to search through the night before pausing around 2:40 the next morning. Crews returned at daybreak and continued searching throughout the day before ending operations that afternoon.  #NicholasCounty #WOAY

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) will offer free black lung screenings throughout southern West Virginia this week, visiting Nicholas, Fayette, and Raleigh counties. The mobile testing unit will be in Nicholas County on Tuesday, March 17, at the Summersville Hampton Inn at 5400 W. Webster Road from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The unit travels to Fayette County on Wednesday, March 18, and Thursday, March 19, set up at New River Health's association black lung clinic. The Oak Hill screenings will take place from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Wednesday and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm on Thursday.
