On Saturday, May 23, volunteers will gather at 9:00 a.m. at the American Legion Post 32 Veterans Cemetery on Bair Street to place flags on every headstone in honor of fallen service members. The museum, located on South Eisenhower Drive in Beckley, will also be open to the public on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  On Monday, the museum will reopen from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for visitors looking to explore the history, artifacts, and stories of the region’s veterans and first responders.  #RaleighCounty #WOAY

One of those opportunities is Concord Cool Academy: Tracks to the Future, happening June 16-19 at Concord University. Students will be able to explore career-focused tracks, including fine arts, creative writing, education, sports medicine, and nursing.  The second camp is the GEAR UP Southern West Virginia and WVU Tech STEM Camp, scheduled for June 29 to July 1. On Tuesday, May 26, the pantry will be in McDowell County at a new beginning at Rocket Boys Drive in War.  Then on Wednesday, May 27, the food bank moves to Raleigh County at the Linda K. According to Sheriff Frank Priddy, the Raleigh County Sheriff's office was contacted in March by authorities in Morrow County, Ohio, about a complaint involving a juvenile.   During the investigation, detectives developed information related to multiple incidents in Raleigh County, leading to warrants for 24-year-old Benjamin Dale Ball.   #RaleighCounty #WOAY

50-year-old John Thompson received a 10-year sentence followed by five years of supervised release for aiding and abetting the distribution of more than 50 grams of methamphetamine.  According to court documents, Thompson arranged the sale of approximately 205 grams of meth to a confidential informant in March of 2024.  #RaleighCounty #WOAY

Federal prosecutors say 51-year-old Roger Lee Cousins was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison for distributing cocaine.  Court documents show Cousins sold cocaine and fentanyl to a confidential informant during several transactions in late 2024, including one deal involving more than 14 grams of cocaine and 27 grams of fentanyl.  #RaleighCounty #WOAY

According to the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office, Sgt. Johnson responded to a call on Thursday, May 7, at the 800 block of East Whitby Road in Shady Spring in connection with a vehicle collision involving a Ford Bronco and a dirt bike. The juvenile driving the dirt bike was seriously injured in the crash and air-lifted to Charleston for further treatment.  #RaleighCounty #WOAY

Raleigh County Sheriff's Office reports deputies were dispatched to the Grandview Diner on Tuesday, May 5, following a breaking and entering incident that had occurred. An investigation led to the arrest of 47-year-old Jeremy Redden, who has been charged with grand larceny, two counts of petit larceny, and breaking and entering. #RaleighCounty #WOAY

An investigation led to the arrest of two suspects identified as 49-year-old Johnny Miles Williams and 50-year-old Wyoma Pettry. Williams has been charged with four counts of burglary, one count of conspiracy, and one count of grand larceny.
