Man arrested and facing several charges including assault and attempted murder following incident at Burning Rock

Tams, WV (WOAY) An arrest has been made following an investigation into a June 20 incident at Burning Rock in Raleigh County. 

Sheriff Frank Priddy says deputies initially responded to reports of an ATV accident and physical altercation at an event on Burning Rock Road in Tams. 

Investigators reviewed video evidence, interviewed numerous victims and witnesses, and determined that 41-year-old Charles Frederick Austin allegedly brandished a firearm before intentionally driving an ATV into a crowd, injuring multiple people. 

As a result of the investigation, Austin is facing 11 felony charges, including five counts of malicious assault, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, wanton endangerment involving a firearm, and multiple other offenses. 

The Sheriff’s Office credits Deputy J.R. Quesenberry for his extensive investigative work that led to the warrants.

Officials say the investigation remains active and additional charges could be filed.
