Contract awarded to build latest section of Coalfields Expressway

Raleigh County, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia Division of Highways has awarded a contract to build the latest section of the Coalfields Expressway between Pineville and Twin Falls State Park.

The state will pay Triton Construction 72.5 million dollars to build the three-mile stretch of road. The Coalfields Expressway will travel through Raleigh, Wyoming, and McDowell counties and bring access to the communities of Sophia, Pineville, Welch, and Bradshaw.

14 miles of roadway from Sophia to Mullens are done. When finished, it will stretch 110 miles, running from Beckley to Pound, Virginia.
