Wonderful Weekend; Another Active Week Ahead

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): The morning commute will be disrupted by foggy conditions, which will be scattered across the region. If you encounter fog this morning, make sure to drive slowly and to use your low beams for the best visibility. The fog will dissipate later this morning, which will reveal a beautiful afternoon ahead. In fact, the entire weekend will be wonderful. Saturday will be the best of these days with sunny skies and temperatures reaching into the 60s. Sunday will cool down, but will stay dry. The next round of active weather starts on Monday, ushering in the work week in fitting fashion. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:

The next wintry storm will develop and pass through on Monday, bringing possible rain, snow, and ice into the region. Currently, most of the region is trending to be rainy. Snow is a possibility, but will be more likely in the high country and Greenbrier Valley. Freezing rain, which will accumulate as ice, is also on the table. The threat of ice depends on where the “warm nose” of the system ends up forming. The “warm nose” is a layer of warmer air in the upper atmosphere. If that nose ends up in our area and temperatures at the surface are below-freezing, like during last month’s massive ice storm, we could see some freezing rain.

This storm is not going to end up like the last ice storm, where we ended up with inches of ice on the roads for weeks. What it could do, however, is make roads icy and potentially snow covered in some areas, causing travel disruptions. Thankfully, snow accumulation is trending to be lighter, but is something to watch in the highest elevations. Make sure to prepare for the possibility of all three types of precipitation on Monday.

There will not be a break after Monday’s wintry mess, but the next round of precipitation will be all rain. Slightly warmer temperatures will eliminate any further chances of ice and snow. After Monday’s storm passes through, another system passes through on Tuesday. Rainy conditions from this incoming system will last until Wednesday morning, and could linger in spots until Wednesday night. Thursday is also a bit uncertain, as there is a chance of more scattered showers.

There is yet another round of showers and storms being developed by models at the end of the week, but many things about this system are uncertain. Will it develop and pass through on Thursday or Friday? Will storms form or will they stay with showers? Here’s your 7-Day Forecast:
