WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): As we move into the middle of the week, we are having a decent start across the region. No showers or storms yet, and temperatures are in the upper 50s and lower 60s. The morning commute will be smooth, but you will want to bring a rain jacket or umbrella for later in the day. Showers and storms will develop later this morning and afternoon, and some storms may become strong or severe. Strong winds are the main concern, but heavy rain and isolated hail are possible. A brief spin-up is not being ruled out either, but tornadic activity is unlikely.
These showers will teeter between scattered and widespread before dissipating overnight. However, rain will not stop for long. More scattered showers are expected tomorrow and through the rest of the week, so the rain gear will be useful for the next few days. These chances will increase gradually from Thursday through Saturday. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:
Easter Sunday is expected to be the next round of widespread showers and thunderstorms across the region. A cold front will finally break through the Midwest and pass through the region Sunday morning, bringing plenty of rain along with it. Activity will be pretty steady through the afternoon before finally dissipating in the evening and overnight hours. Due to the timing of this front, we are not expecting a lot in terms of severe weather. However, we are keeping an eye on conditions as the week continues.
Along with the widespread rain, this front will bring cooler temperatures. Most of the region will drop 10 to 15 degrees from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, bringing us back to more seasonable temperatures. It will not be as cold as it was on the St. Patrick’s Day, and will likely not be that cold again until the next winter season is upon us.
After Easter ends, skies will gradually clear and temperatures will fall. Next week will start calmer and cooler, making for a decent day. Mostly sunny skies will stick around for a couple of days as well, giving us a break from the active weather. In fact, most of next week will be much drier than the previous.
