Active weather through Easter Sunday

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was a pleasant day today around southern West Virginia, with everyone topping out in the 70s in most areas, and Pineville getting into the 80s. Tonight, it will be mild again, and the average low of 59 degrees tonight around the region is the same as the average high for this time of the year!

Tomorrow, we’ll wind up in similar territory in terms of temperatures, but we’ll toss in a chance for showers and storms as a front stalls out just to our north. The front will serve as a focal point for some showers and storms, some of which will be on the strong side.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of the area in the Marginal Risk for severe storms (a Level 1 out of 5).
Most of the strongest storms will be to our north, closer to the stalled out front, but if there are any severe storms, the main threat will be damaging winds. Large hail is a small possibility, and, of course, we’ll be tracking rain rates and amounts to see if there is any localized flooding.
Even though the front will be the catalyst for some showers and storms, it won’t pass through and drop our temperatures. For now, high pressure over the western Atlantic means that the mild air stays with us. In fact, Thursday will be even warmer than tomorrow, with most areas topping out near or above 80 degrees. There will continue to be chances for showers and storms over the next few days as the front lingers just off to our north.
This weekend is Easter, of course, and the chance of rain will continue throughout the weekend. Finally, on Easter itself, the front swings through, triggering one final round of showers and storms and dropping the temperatures closer to where they should be. At least there will be plenty of sunshine. The dry weather and near-normal temperatures are expected to last through the rest of the 6–10-day forecast.
