Wonderful today, but wet weather looms

We’re seeing a wonderful day around the region today, with brilliant sunshine and warm temperatures. The rest of the day features more pleasant weather area-wide, although a weak disturbance passing to our south could produce a few showers, mainly in the southern and southwestern counties.
Later tonight, any showers that do pop up will end and we’ll see mostly clear skies and mild overnight temperatures.
Tomorrow is when the better chances for rain will enter the forecast, as the heating of the day helps to destabilize the atmosphere to trigger some showers and storms. It’s almost a summer-like pattern for the area. There is enough moisture to cause some decent rain totals for those caught underneath any storm that develops, but flooding should not be a concern aside from the usual ponding and standing water issues. As you can see, the two main atmospheric models that we use have somewhat different solutions regarding how much rain to expect.
A mid-level disturbance brings more chances for rain on Thursday, but again any totals should be fairly low.
More importantly, the disturbance pushes a warm front through the region, and that leads to a mild morning Friday and plenty of moisture for the next system to work with.
As the system comes through during the first half of the weekend, good chances for rain and good amounts in the rain gauges will be common around the area.
Once again, the thinking is that flooding will be unlikely, outside of the same type of standing water issues that we’ve seen regularly the last several episodes of rain. After the next storm exits the region, quiet and somewhat cooler weather ends the weekend. Temperatures rebound and rain chances return by the end of the extended forecast.
