West Virginia football down to zero COVID-19 cases, holds first padded practice

WOAY – After the Mountaineers completed their first fully-padded practice Saturday, the West Virginia athletic department announced that the football team is down to zero active cases of COVID-19.

In the last testing update on July 25, the football team had one active case. The squad has had at least 28 positive tests since June, but with the latest numbers, it appears all infected players have recovered.

Head coach Neal Brown spoke to the media after the Mountaineers’ fifth practice overall and first in full pads (thought contact was limited). He stressed his desire to play the season while also acknowledging the challenge of keeping his players socially distanced once other students return to campus.
