Unemployment portal expected to expand who qualifies

WEST VIRGINIA (WOAY) – There have been a lot of questions about who can apply for unemployment.

On Friday, Patricia Pagan, the economic development manager for the Greenbrier Valley Economic Development Corporation said that a portal will be opening up for hands-on employees like hair stylists and massage therapist to apply for unemployment.

“It’s such a big thing. I mean, people are of course concerned about who they might lose but of course the what they might lose is not insignificant,” Pagan said.

Pagan expects the portal on Workforce West Virginia to be flooded but reminds everyone that it is a retroactive process which means it can go back to a point in time, so you don’t lose money waiting to be approved.

It is expected to launch at 10 p.m. on Workforce West Virginia’s site.
