Tracking the next winter storm

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was the day between the storms today around the area, with highs in the 20s and some sunshine. Tonight, we’ll see lows in the teens as the winds shift around to the southwest ahead of the next storm.

Tomorrow, a strong storm system will push to the north of the region. With it, chances for snow are very good.
Some of the snow will be on the heavy side at times, especially along and to the northwest of the spine of the Appalachians.
Some banding could set up as well, which will enhance the snow totals wherever the bands set up.
The snow lasts all day, and with temperatures in the lower to middle 30s, some of the precipitation could fall as rain or a rain/snow mix. Anywhere that occurs, it would cut down totals, but we think almost all of the precipitation will fall as snow this time. And it’s a wet, heavy snow with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark. By the time we see the snow end, some areas along the ridge tops from roughly Flat Top into portions of Pocahontas, Fayette, Raleigh, and Nicholas Counties will see more than half a foot of snow.
After this next low is gone, temperatures will fall off again. Lows will be in the single digits on Sunday morning, partially aided by the newly enhanced snowpack. After the cold start to the extended forecast, temperatures begin to moderate starting on Monday.
By the end of the forecast, warm weather lovers will finally get their wish as highs will be above the normal for the first time in what will by that time be almost three weeks! There will be rain around, but the chances are not as high as what we’ll see this weekend, and the rain and warm temperatures will work on the snowpack.
