We are seeing a cloudy, cold and moist evening around the area this evening. Some areas are seeing a light drizzle and with temperatures at or below freezing, that means freezing drizzle to slow us down as we head out to our evening plans. Luckily, there isn’t much precipitation around.

When it’s all said and done, the precipitation will end, and lows tonight will be in the lower 20s.
Tomorrow, we’ll catch a break from the precipitation, and for the first time in a while the sun will break out as high pressure takes over the weather temporarily. Temperatures will not be able to rebound to anywhere close to the normal, however, and we’ll wind up in the middle to upper 30s. To give you an idea of how much cooler that is compared to the normal, the average high in Beckley this time of the year is 47 degrees. Lows tomorrow night will be cold once again, as we’ll see middle 20s around the area.
The break from the wintry mixes provided by the midweek high pressure center lasts into late Thursday night and early Friday morning before more chances for rain and snow return to the forecast with another storm approaching the region from the southwest. As has been the case so often during the past week or two, temperatures below freezing early in the day give way to above freezing temperatures later on. So, not surprisingly, a mix of precipitation is in the forecast.

For the first system, it will be rain and snow, but another storm on Friday night and Saturday could feature some freezing rain once again. Unfortunately, travel to Charleston for the high school football playoff games could be tricky.

The active weather pattern continues next week as well, as another storm system comes from the more traditional northwesterly direction and gives us yet more chances for rain and snow Monday and Tuesday.
