OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It has been another nice day, with plenty of sunshine. There was still plenty of dry air around as high pressure is still in charge of our weather, but as it scoots off to the southeast of the area and fades, the flow will turn to the south. That’s what made it slightly warmer than yesterday and will keep it a bit warmer tonight than this morning. Lows will be in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees.
Tomorrow, we’ll see plenty of sunshine again, but increasing clouds are in the forecast as well, and a front will approach from the northwest. For the first time in a few days, highs will be in the 80s nearly area-wide. Only the highest elevation areas will stay below 80 degrees, along with some typically cooler spots like Bluefield. It will be a mild day, slightly above average temperature-wise by a few degrees; the average high for tomorrow in Beckley is 79 degrees. Tomorrow night we’ll drop into the lower 60s as the warming trend continues.
The aforementioned front arrives on Thursday and will trigger some showers and storms. Some of the storms could be on the strong-to-severe side. If any of the storms become intense, they’ll contain gusty winds and possibly some hail.
Of course, there will be some decent moisture to work with, so flooding is a possibility in some of the low-lying and flood-prone areas. Fortunately, the individual storms are fast enough movers, so the chance for flooding will be small. For our Fabulous Football Friday, there will still be a chance for rain, but it’s smaller than on Thursday. We’ll need to pack the rain jacket as we head out to the games.
This weekend will be a nice one, with mild temperatures and a mix of sun and clouds. The next chance for rain after Friday will be on Tuesday as another low-pressure center approaches from the northwest.
