We’re tracking some showers and storms that are making their way into the state this evening. It’s the second line of storms to enter the state today; the first round pushed mainly to the south of the state line, but clipped parts of the southern coalfields. This line is coming from Ohio and, at the moment, is not severe.

Some sun is helping to destabilize the atmosphere this afternoon, but the good news is that we don’t have as much daylight as we would have had a month ago, so that will help to keep the storms weaker than they would be otherwise. But some of the storms will be strong nonetheless. The rain should end overnight, and lows with the cloud cover will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
Tomorrow, we’ll see the opposite of what you might expect after a front goes through. Instead of cooler temperatures, readings will be rising into the upper 70s and lower 80s with a good breeze out of the southwest. We’ll see some sunshine as well. Overall, not a bad start to the football games, although the breeze will affect the passing and kicking games somewhat.

Later Friday, the clouds will be on the increase, and another front will approach from the northwest. A chance for showers and storms will enter the forecast as well. With the cloud cover, lows will again be mild, mainly in the lower 60s.
The weekend features a real mixed bag as the weather on Saturday will be quite rough for parts of the region. The reason is the second of the two fronts that we’re tracking over the next couple of days. The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of the area in the lowest level “Marginal” risk category for severe storms. Areas to our northwest are in the higher level 2 “Slight” risk category. In both areas, the main threat is damaging winds, with the large hail and isolated tornado threats being mainly confined to areas to our northwest. The storms should roll into the area during the afternoon and evening and be gone by early Sunday morning. The main concern for the NewsWatch area is heavy rain, with the usual ponding and standing water issues in places that see the storms.

After the next front is gone, a very nice stretch of weather is setting up for the region, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures that drop into cool territory at first. The high on Sunday and Monday afternoon will be in the upper 60s for most. Lows on Sunday and Monday morning will be in the upper 40s, as a trend that lasts through the middle of next week. Highs rebound into the mid-70s by late next week.
