We started of the day with a few light showers, but as the day went on the rain returned in full force and remains with us as the evening goes on.

The cause for the showers is a low-pressure center approaching from the southwest. This low has a lot of moisture to work with, and it will pass just off to our west over the next few days.

The Wednesday night/Friday morning timeframe should be a very wet stretch for us, with most locations picking up more than 1″ of rainfall.

It will really help to alleviate the drought that we’ve been stuck in for the past few months, even though it won’t eliminate it entirely. Some of the higher elevation locations will even pick up snow or at least a mix of precipitation as temperatures fall into the lower to middle 30s.

Tonight, and tomorrow before the cold air really invades the region, lows will be in the 40s and highs will be right around 50 degrees.
The weekend looks much better in terms of both temperatures and rain chances. From Friday morning/Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon/Sunday evening, we should stay dry, and it will be warmer – at least in the afternoon. With some extra clearing at night, it will be colder during that part of the day, only a couple of degrees above the freezing mark on average.
As we start the next work week, another low-pressure center will approach from the same southwesterly direction as our current weathermaker.

It won’t be quite as wet as this system, and temperatures will actually be on the rise once it’s gone. We’ll finally be close to the seasonal average by the end of the extended forecast.
