WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Conditions this morning are calm with mostly sunny skies, but this nice weather will not last forever. A cold front is currently advancing through the Midwest and into the eastern third of the country. Showers and storms will show up in the afternoon, lasting through the evening before dissipating overnight. There is enough available energy to supplement the development of strong or severe thunderstorms this afternoon. Make sure to stay weather aware through the day by downloading the WOAY StormWatch App and having multiple ways to receive alerts.
The concerns related to severe weather will be very similar to yesterday. Damaging winds and heavy rain are in the forefront of our concerns, while large hail is also in play. Tornadic activity is not likely for this batch of storms. The warm and humid conditions on the surface will provide the instability needed for strong updrafts, which is why damaging winds and hail are on our radar for today. Wind gusts could reach 60 miles per hour, while the isolated bouts of hail could yield stones up to an inch in diameter. Heavy rainfall may also cause some flooding issues, so please be aware as you drive. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:
After the storms fade away overnight, tomorrow will be a wonderful day. High pressure will make a brief pit stop in Appalachia, giving us a break from the storms. Humidity and temperatures will be down a bit, making for more comfortable outdoor conditions. Skies will remain mostly sunny through the day. If you have outdoor plans, this is the day to do it. Make sure to stay hydrated and have sun protection, especially if you are staying outside for an extended period.
The nice conditions continue into Sunday morning, but will come to an end as another cold front barrels through the region in the afternoon. This front will bring more widespread rain in the form of showers and thunderstorms. There is potential for a few stronger storms, but that potential will be less than either yesterday or today due to slightly lower temperature and humidity. This system will provide another shot of beneficial rainfall to end the weekend before it leaves in the wee hours of Monday morning. The weekend is a mixed bag, so make sure you are prepared for the ups and downs.

Some showers may linger early next week, but the largest chunk of activity will likely remain to our south. High temperatures will fall into the mid-70s on Monday and Tuesday as a result of the cold front passing this weekend. It will be a comfortable feel to start next week, but you may need an umbrella just in case. Unfortunately, the next chance of a soaking rain won’t come until Thursday of next week. We are watching a low-pressure center that is trending towards the northeaster states, which could also bring us some decent rainfall once again. Here’s the 7-Day Forecast:
