WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): The main line of storms is currently moving quickly through the region. These storms are strong and have the potential to become severe if they continue to develop across this line. The main concern for this morning line is damaging winds and localized flooding, but hail and tornadic activity cannot be completely ruled out either. A Tornado Warning has already been issued just to our west near Shamrock, West Virginia. That warning was issued at 7:25 AM and lasts until 8:15 AM. No warnings have been issued in the viewing area as of 8 AM, but you should stay weather aware for the morning commute.
After the main line passes through this morning, scattered cells likely develop this afternoon. These storms will have a conditional severe threat depending on how strong these morning storms get and if we get additional sunshine. Damaging winds continue to be the main concern while flooding and hail are also slightly elevated. Tornadic activity remains low, but not zero. The strength of afternoon storms is dependent on how things go for the remainder of this line, but severe weather cannot be written off. Storms will fade after sunset, allowing things to calm down overnight. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest forecast:
After the storms leave tonight, conditions will steadily improve through the rest of the work week. Wednesday does carry a very stray chance for a shower or two, but this chance remains very low. The area will likely remain dry and cooler than usual. Thursday will be even better as skies become mostly sunny and temperatures stay in the mid-70s. Friday will be slightly warmer as temperatures reach 80 degrees, but conditions will remain pristine. Both days will be perfect for any and all outdoor activities. This weekend starts nicely, but showers and storms return Saturday night and continue through the weekend into next week.
