WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): This morning will be quiet with mostly cloudy skies, but showers and storms are making their way to our region this afternoon. Rainfall will be widespread with isolated thunderstorms mixed in, which could bring heavier rain amounts and gusty winds. Any severe weather will stay to our west, as the main concern for our area will be minor water issues. Flash Flood Guidance does not show any particularly vulnerable areas, though the southern coalfields are likely to see the heaviest rain. These showers and storms will break up a bit early in the morning tomorrow, but will emerge once again as another low-pressure system moves through. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the full forecast:
Tomorrow will be similar to today as storms and showers become widespread. A few storms will bring some gusty winds and heavier rainfall, particularly in the southern coalfields. However, the chance of severe weather is restricted to Tazewell county and other parts of southern Virginia. The weather will last through the day and slowly dissipate through the overnight hours, but that won’t be the last of it for this weekend. Another cold front will move through early Sunday, dropping temperatures and causing a switch from rain to a mix of rain and snow. Any lingering showers will be more scattered, but will still bring wet and slippery conditions to the region.

The weather will calm down on Monday, but temperatures will also remain cold. Despite the plentiful sunshine, the realities of mid-January winter will be back for many days to come. The inactive weather will last through Tuesday before the next system starts t move through on Wednesday. Wednesday’s weather will start as rain before switching to a wintery mix and eventually fully snow on Thursday. Make sure you have the winter gear ready for Sunday and beyond.
