We started the day after Christmas with some patchy fog around the area. Visibilities were down to around 2 miles in many locations, meaning that we had to take some extra time to get to our morning destinations. In the northeastern portion of the area, we were tracking some light freezing drizzle. Temperatures have risen to above freezing fairly quickly, so any freezing rain has changed over to a cold rain.
Showers will become more widespread as the day goes on, and we’ll need to have some sort of rain gear handy as we head out to our evening plans.

The showers will continue into tomorrow morning before tapering off.

Lows will continue to be mild – we’re forecasting a low of 46 degrees. That’s above the average high for this time of the year! Tomorrow, the rain goes away for a brief spell, and temperatures will be even milder, topping out near 60 degrees.
As we go through the extended forecast, we’ll make it to 60 degrees on Sunday despite some cloud cover and showers. But big changes are on the way, as much colder air is set to invade the area behind a front that will push through Sunday night/Monday morning.

On Monday, temperatures will start in the mid-50s but will drop during the day. There will also be precipitation, and as the temperatures fall, the rain will transition to a mix of rain and snow, and eventually to all snow. Highs that were pushing 60 degrees will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s. The cold air will be sticking around as well, as the general pattern shows cold air making its way into Florida and dominating the eastern third of the nation.
