WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): This morning is starting off on a chilly note with temperatures near or below-freezing and even lower wind chills. Make sure you take extra time this morning to bundle up and get the frost off of your car before heading to your destination this morning. While temperatures will recover this afternoon, gusty winds up to 40-50 miles per hour will make things feel colder throughout the day. A Wind Advisory has been issued for Fayette, Greenbrier, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Raleigh, and Summers counties from 8 AM to 8 PM today. A High Wind Warning has also been issued for northwest Pocahontas County in that same time frame. Hold onto your hats, as it will be a breezy one today. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:
Winds will die down overnight into Saturday morning, but that won’t stop the cold temperatures occurring in the early morning. Thankfully, the sun will be out and temperatures will recover once again. This entire weekend will be wonderful, and we can thank high pressure for keeping any activity away and also letting our atmosphere recover a bit. Despite the nicer conditions, you may want a hoodie; temperatures will stay in the upper 50s and lower 60s until Sunday afternoon.
Just as the going gets good to end our weekend, the next round of rain and snow barrels through on Monday morning. This front will produce strong to severe storms in the Midwest and plains on Sunday, but should weaken enough overnight to leave the severe stuff behind by the time it reaches us. However, what it won’t leave behind is cold temperatures and snowfall. The system starts with showers and storms during the morning commute before the front passes. Once it does early in the afternoon, temperatures will drop significantly and rain will gradually switch to a mix of rain and snow. Accumulation will be light to none, but the cold temperatures will be here to stay.

After the front leaves, lingering snow showers may stick for a bit before high pressure will keep us dry for the next few days. However, the cold will be here in a big way on St. Patrick’s Day. You may have heard me refer to the temperatures as being “Cold as a glass of Guinness”. I did a little research, and we’d be even cooler than the ideal temperature of Guinness! The ideal temperature is said to be between 41° and 45° Fahrenheit (or 5° to 7° Celsius), according to Guinness. After a chilly holiday, we’d start to recover slowly through the week with no active weather in sight. Here’s your 7-Day Forecast:
