Cold tonight, windy tomorrow

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was a sunny, but MUCH colder day today around the region. Temperatures this afternoon and evening have been as much as 40 degrees colder compared to the same time yesterday.

Tonight, we’ll see mostly clear skies, but cold temperatures. Lows will be below freezing, so there could be some refreezing on any side roads that still have standing water on them from this afternoon. Fortunately, most roads are dry, and the morning snow melted quickly as temperatures were very warm before it fell.

Tomorrow will be a nice day, with temperatures on the rise, topping out in the mid-50s. A strong storm is expected to pass to our north, but any rain or snow associated with it should stay confined to northern West Virginia. A stray shower or two could make it as far south as Nicholas and Pocahontas Counties, but this is not likely.
The downside of tomorrow’s weather will be the wind. Sustained winds will be around 20 miles per hour for several consecutive hours in most areas, and gusts will be as high as 40 miles per hour.
In the higher elevation areas, winds will be even stronger and gusts to 50 mph will be possible. Because of the wind, the National Weather Service has issued Wind Advisories from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. tomorrow.
The warming trend takes us through tomorrow night as well, as we see lows in the mid-30s.
The weekend ahead looks to be a nice one, with dry conditions and the warming trend that starts on Friday continuing. Highs on Saturday will be in the upper 50s, and on Sunday, the thermometer will rise into the mid-60s. But the rain, snow, and cold are not done with us yet. Another storm comes roaring into the area on late Sunday and Monday, and that leads to another shot of cold air, another instance of falling temperatures, and another round of rain and snow.
Once again, there will be accumulating snow, but totals will be small, and the commute should be more wet than anything else.
Behind the next low, temperatures will fall to their lowest levels in a while, with lows on Tuesday and Wednesday morning below 20 degrees. St. Patrick’s Day will be cold as well, with highs around 40 degrees. Warmer weather ends the forecast.
