Showers continue, warm temps stick around for now

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We continue to track some showers and storms that are making their way through the region this evening.

Some of the storms have been on the strong side, but we’ve been able to avoid severe weather today. With a lot of moisture to work with and combined with rain that’s already fallen, there was a thought that some of the storms could cause flooding issues. The Weather Prediction Center placed much of the western part of the area in level 2 out of 4 for flooding rain, with the rest of the area in a level 1 out of 4.

I still think that the dry weather that has led us to be in severe drought around most of the area should keep any flooding concerns down a bit. Any flooding that does occur will likely be confined to poor drainage areas. The rain chances will last through the night, and the cloud cover will keep it mild, with lows in the middle 60s.

Tomorrow will be similar to today as another disturbance makes its way through the area. Once again, heavy rain is the main threat with any storms that pop up.
Highs will be held in check by the cloud cover and will wind up around the 80-degree mark. After this current stretch of weather ends, we get a bit of a break on Thursday, with fewer showers and more sunshine. Temperatures both Thursday and Friday will be the warmest of the next seven as we reach the middle 80s both days. The chance of showers and storms decreases for the first half of the weekend as high pressure temporarily takes over our weather.
Early next week, yet another area of low pressure comes into the picture, and we’ll have good rain chances again. This time, a cool front will swing through, dropping our temperatures to around normal for mid-June.
