WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Monday morning is starting on a gloomy note with patchy fog forming across the region. These conditions will not impact the commute too heavily, but drivers should remain cautious and use their low beams when driving through the fog. Fog will dissipate later this morning as cloud cover gradually clears. Skies will become mostly sunny this afternoon and evening, ridding us of the gloomy feel from this morning. Temperatures start in the mid- to upper 60s for most and eventually reach the mid-70s this afternoon. It will be a comfortable day to be enjoyed across the region. It will be a great day for a walk or any other outdoor activities. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest:
A high-pressure system will move from the Great Lakes to New England. The system will stall over the northeast for a couple of days, resulting in calmer and drier weather. Tuesday and Wednesday will feature sunny skies and warmer temperatures. Highs on Wednesday will reach the low to mid-80s for most of our communities. It will be a nice stretch of weather to get out and enjoy. Remember to bring water and sun protection along if you plan on staying outside for an extended period.
Eventually, high pressure will slide out of the region. This process will be slower, but we are expecting the nicer weather to leave on Thursday. Skies will remain mostly sunny during the morning hours, but isolated showers are trending to return in the afternoon and evening. The next disturbance will remain to our west, but the loss of high pressure is allowing instability to build ahead of the incoming front. Since the system is staying to our west, temperatures will remain in the mid-80s or Thursday afternoon. Rain chances remain around 20%, but they will increase through the second half of the week.
The next disturbance, which will be a cold front, will push through the region on Friday. The passing of this front will result in scattered showers and thunderstorms. Activity is trending to peak in the afternoon and evening, which is typical for these sorts of systems. As of now, models are showing weaker storms for this round of weather. With drier conditions ahead of this front, flooding should be less of an issue as well. However, we will be keeping an eye on things as we get more information.
