OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We’ve seen some showers and isolated storms in southern West Virginia this evening. Most of the stronger storms have stayed to our south, but one or two could still clip the far southern portion of the area. Severe weather is not expected, but gusty winds and, of course, heavy rain are a possibility. Slick spots on the highways and byways will slow us down a bit as we head out late tonight and early tomorrow morning. As the front makes its way through the area, temperatures cool off into the upper 40s.

Tomorrow, we’ll start with a few lingering showers, but as the day goes on, the skies will clear. Despite the sunshine, temperatures will not be all that warm. In fact, we’ll only top out around 60 degrees as the front that is passing through the area today is fairly strong for early May. Tomorrow night, with the clear skies and relatively cool start, we could see some patchy frost, so be sure to cover up or bring in the tender vegetation.
Friday will be slightly warmer in the afternoon after the cold start, and it will be the only day during the extended forecast that does not feature a chance for rain. We’ll see mostly sunny to sunny skies and highs in the middle 60s.
Mother’s Day weekend will be a mixed bag weather-wise. There will be a chance for showers on both days, with a chance for storms tossed in on Sunday.

Highs will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s, and lows will be around 50 degrees, close to the average on both ends of the scale. The better of the two days is Saturday, but even on Sunday, the showers and storms will be scattered.
As we go into the traditional work week, the chance for rain will remain with the weather pattern sticking around. Tuesday will be the one day with only a few sprinkles or light showers expected. Temperatures will fluctuate a bit, but will generally be in the 60s for the highs with another cool morning on Wednesday.
