After a nice Monday, some rain has already made its way into the area today, but the weather really goes downhill this evening as another potent low-pressure center puts its stamp on our weather. Strong to severe storms will come through the area. In a similar manner to what we saw on Friday, there will be two batches of strong storms to deal with. The first of these storms will come in around the afternoon drive.

The second is a line of storms that will be severe as it comes in early tomorrow morning.

As it has often been this severe weather season, the main threat with these storms for our area will be damaging winds, especially with the line that rolls through early Wednesday morning, but tornadoes are a larger threat than usual for some areas, especially in the southwestern counites.

With plenty of moisture to work with, there will also be heavy rainfall for anyone caught underneath the storms, which will be most of the area, even the parts that do not get severe storms.

Put it all together, and it’s no surprise that the National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch until 8 p.m. tonight for McDowell and Wyoming Counites. In addition, a Flood Watch is also in effect for those same two counties, with Raleigh and Fayette Counites thrown in for good measure.

Be sure to have multiple ways to receive warnings that might be issued by the NWS tonight and into tomorrow.
