OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) –Â We saw strong storms in the northernmost portions of the area today. Portions of Nicholas and Pocahontas Counties saw storms with large hail and strong winds. Tonight, the main travel concern is for patchy fog, especially in locations that pick up some rain. Lows will be mild again. It seems like we’re stuck in the middle 60s, and that’s as cool as we’ll get tonight.

Tomorrow will start with some sunshine, but as the day goes on, it will turn into another active day around the area, with everyone seeing what Nicholas and Pocahontas Counties saw today.

The sunshine provides fuel for the storms to work with, and they’ll put it to good use to produce more strong-to-severe storms.

The Storm Prediction Center’s Level 2 out of 5 area for severe storms that was confined to the north today, overspreads the entire region tomorrow.

The same threats are in play: strong winds and large hail, with flooding rains also a possibility. This will be especially true in the northern areas, for two main reasons: 1) there has already been some rain in that area recently, and 2) the drought has not been as bad in that area.

Elsewhere, the drought is at severe levels and remains that way despite some recent rain, so a steady rain in those areas will be a good thing.

The showers and storms will taper off after sunset, and skies will gradually clear as dry air behind a weak front makes its way into the region. That will lead to a nice start to the weekend, with plenty of sunshine and highs in the lower 80s. The break is only a temporary one, however, as more showers and storms are in the forecast for Sunday as another in this parade of lows and fronts makes its way into the area.

The first half of next week will continue to be active as more systems will come into the area. The only dry day will be next Wednesday. The one thing that will change is the temperatures. We’ll drop into the lower to middle 70s next Tuesday and Wednesday, before rebounding to nearly 80 degrees next Thursday.
