Scattered Rain, Then Long Dry Stretch; Latest on Debby Impacts

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Low pressure will trigger scattered rain this evening and then high pressure will bring dry, warm weather.

Rain will be scattered through the evening and then again Saturday afternoon. Most spots will end up with less than one-half inch of rain, with localized spots south of I-64 with 1 inch.

High pressure will bring dry and warm weather next week. Likely upcoming Tropical Storm Debby will stay south and east of our area and southern West Virginia will be on the subsidence side with clear skies and no rain. This will allow drought to expand and worsen.

There is slight upside risk by Friday and Saturday (August 9-10) the high pressure weakens and moisture from Debby brings showers to the region.

ANOTHER HEAT RECORD SHATTERED: On July 13, the 500 mb (mid-level of the atmosphere) ridge had a peak height of 604 decameters. The global record is 605 dm. The higher the number, the warmer the temperatures underneath the ridge.

This was followed by 4-consecutive 90-degree days locally. We’ve had 7-90 degree days this summer and the average is one!
