Rainelle, WV (WOAY) A new chapter in Western Greenbrier County history is about to begin.
The Greenbrier Historical Society is inviting the community to Rainelle this Saturday, August 29, for the groundbreaking of the new Greenbrier Historical Society–Meadow River Valley Museum.
The ceremony will take place at 2:00 p.m. at 1016 Main Street, the former site of the historic King Coal Hotel.
The new museum will preserve and share the stories of Western Greenbrier’s coal mining, timber and railroad industries, along with the people and communities that shaped the region.
Two historic buildings will also become part of the museum campus: the MERILUCO building, donated by the State Fair of West Virginia, and the former Meadow River Lumber Company Sales Office, donated by the Jim and Shelby Bryant family.
The groundbreaking will be held rain or shine, with a tent and some seating available.
Cookies and lemonade will also be served.
The community is encouraged to come celebrate the beginning of a new home for Western Greenbrier’s history.
