Raleigh County man convicted of federal gun crime

West Virginia  (WOAY)- A Harper Heights man has been convicted on federal firearm charges.  

On Monday, May 5, a federal jury found 36-year-old Alfred Leslie Pittman guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm following a one-day trial.  

According to court documents, Pittman was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by Beckley police on April 26, 2023.  

Officers discovered a Taurus G2C 9mm pistol with an extended magazine inside the vehicle and determined Pittman had it.  

Pittman is not legally allowed to own or carry a firearm due to a prior felony conviction for first-degree robbery in 2015.

The sentencing hearing is September 5.

Pittman faces up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.  

He awaits further court proceedings in Southern Regional Jail on no bond.
