Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) Scouts at this year’s national jamboree turned their service project into real help for West Virginia families hit by recent storms.
Scouting America handed out hygiene kits Sunday morning to residents recovering from the storms and flooding across the region.
The kits were packed by thousands of scouts during the 2026 national jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, filled with personal care items for individuals and families.
Organizers say the kits were meant for communities in need, but they did not expect that need to hit so close to home, or so soon.
The distribution was carried out through the jamboree’s messengers of peace service hub, with help from the American Red Cross, the United Methodist Church’s disaster response ministries, and other partners.
