Rain Continues Into Late Week

It was a cloudy day across southern West Virginia today, with a few showers moving through some areas, mainly around Charleston. The cloudy and wet weather will continue into late this week, with a 90% chance of rain on Thursday. The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of Pocahontas and Greenbrier counties under a marginal risk for severe weather on Thursday, with damaging wind being the primary threat. For most of the region, rain is likely, but there’s also a chance for a stronger storm producing winds between 40 and 50 mph. That risk, however, appears to be very isolated and would most likely occur late Thursday afternoon.

Rain will begin to taper off as we head into Friday, and conditions should dry out just in time for Football Friday as the games get underway. There is a lingering chance of rain Friday afternoon and evening in the far eastern areas near the Virginia border, but it shouldn’t interfere with the football games. Most areas could pick up close to — if not more than — an inch of rain by Friday evening, with the bulk of it falling on Thursday.

As we head into the weekend, the rain chances will linger around with more rain being possible on Saturday, and that will be a greater risk than on Friday. The rain on Saturday would be most likely from Tazewell County, VA into Greenbrier County, WV.
