Nice End of the Week; Wetter Weekend

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Today will be another dry day with sunny skies and temperatures reaching close to 80 degrees. Aside from a few clouds in the sky, there won’t be much happening today. However, fire risk will be elevated with the dry conditions in place. Mind the seasonal burn ban and avoid all forms of burning if possible. Tonight, cloud cover will increase gradually as the low-pressure system starts to move into the eastern portion of the nation. Scattered showers are possible, but we likely stay mostly dry until tomorrow morning. Some much-needed rain is coming up this weekend, but it will not be enough to put a significant dent into the developing drought. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:

Speaking of the weekend, we are expecting widespread rain through most of the day Saturday. This low-pressure will move through the region tomorrow afternoon, bringing showers and scattered thunderstorms along with it. While there have been severe storms and tornadoes in the Midwest, our environment is much less conducive to severe weather. We are not expecting any severe weather in our region, and any storms will be typical for the spring season. The showers and storms will start to gradually break down overnight on Saturday, but won’t dissipate.

The rain will last through Sunday morning before dissipating that afternoon. After this round of rain ends, most of our region will get between a quarter and a half of an inch of rain. Needed, but not nearly enough to help us in any significant way. Skies will become partly cloudy during the 2nd half of Sunday, making for a nicer end to the weekend. Aside from the rain, temperatures will be nice this weekend as well. We are getting a cold front moving through the region, but much weaker than previous fronts have been.

Monday will start on a drier note, but rain will come back into the forecast on Tuesday of next week. Another low-=pressure system will pass through the Great lakes and Canada, dragging a line of showers and storms along with it.  Rainfall will be heavier this time around, but conditions will be similar to Saturday. Widespread showers, scattered thunderstorms, and gloomy conditions will last from Tuesday morning until the overnight hours. However, instead of drying up on Wednesday, more showers will move in. A couple smaller groups of showers will pop in and out on Wednesday and Thursday. You’ll want an umbrella handy for this upcoming pattern. Here’s the 7-Day Forecast:
