Warm and Dry before Weekend Rain

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): After some showers came by yesterday, we will return to the warm and dry pattern for the remainder of the work week. Temperatures will be in the mid- to upper-70s both afternoons and skies will be mostly sunny. It will be a great time to get any outdoor work or activities done before rain returns this weekend. With the dry conditions comes an elevated fire risk, so please follow the seasonal burn ban across the state. We are still in a moderate drought, which won’t go down until more rain falls next week. Overall, this is the best time to enjoy the outdoors before rain returns to the region. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest look:

Showers and storms return this weekend as a cold front passes through Saturday. Showers will be widespread for most of Saturday while storms will remain scattered across our region. These storms will be on the weaker side, and we are not expecting anything more than some cracks of thunder and heavy rain. The rain starts to break down Saturday night, but will not fully dissipate until Sunday afternoon. Over the day or so of rain, we’ll get a decent amount. We are trending between a quarter and a half of an inch this weekend, which is beneficial but won’t knock out the drought. After the rain dissipates on Sunday, conditions will stay dry for the rest of the day.

We start nice heading into next week, but conditions quickly become active Monday night. Another low-pressure system will drag a line of showers and storms into the region lasting from Monday night into Tuesday. Like this coming weekend, showers will be widespread while storms are scattered. Another half of an inch of rain is expected with this round of showers, further helping our region with drought concerns. We should make a little bit of a dent in the drought monitor within the next two weeks thanks to multiple rounds of widespread rain. Showers will linger into the middle of the week as well, only helping us further. Here’s the 7-Day Forecast:
