Montgomery, WV (WOAY)- The Public Service Commission of West Virginia (PSC) has scheduled a public hearing regarding Armstrong Public Service District’s future after ruling it as a distressed utility.
The hearing is set for Thursday, January 30 at Montgomery city hall at 10:00 am.
The commission will determine how the utility can be improved and whether another entity should acquire the system.
Armstrong serves 822 wastewater service customers in the Montgomery area of Fayette County.
The PSC ruled on July 31, 2024, that Armstrong’s sewer system has substantial problems involving finances, decrepit infrastructure, and management issues.
Kanawha Falls Public Service District petitioned to acquire Armstrong, but the PSC rejected the offer, stating the Kanawha Falls district’s distressed state and the commission’s lack of confidence.
In an October meeting, the Fayette County Commission requested that the PSC delay proceedings and include the Gauley River and Page-Kincaid service districts.
One of the proposed plans is to merge all four districts.
