Governor’s Highway Safety Program reminds residents to celebrate West Virginia Day responsibly by driving sober

West Virginia (WOAY) As West Virginians prepare to celebrate West Virginia Day on June 20, state highway safety officials are reminding drivers to celebrate responsibly.

The Governor’s Highway Safety Program says law enforcement agencies across the state will increase patrols as part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

According to officials, alcohol-impaired driving remains a factor in nearly one-quarter of traffic fatalities in West Virginia.

The enforcement effort comes during what’s known as the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer,” the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when traffic deaths typically rise.

Officials encourage motorists to use rideshare services, designate a sober driver, or make other transportation plans before celebrating.
