It is a nice afternoon around the region, with temperatures in the 60s through most of the area.

The only downside is the wind. We’ve seen gusts over 30 mph throughout the day, with the strongest winds in the northeastern areas. There is still a Wind Advisory for Pocahontas County until 1:00 a.m. Thursday. Gusts will be as high as 50 mph at times through the rest of the evening.

As the night goes on, the winds will die down, but the clouds will be on the increase. Behind a front that is passing through the area today, temperatures will fall off quickly, dropping into the mid-30s by tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow will be a nice day around the region with sunshine in the skies, but cooler temperatures. Highs will be around 10 degrees cooler than they have been today, generally in the mid-50s. At least the breeze, which will still be part of the weather early in the day, will go away, and winds will be light.
Friday will feature unsettled weather as a front approaches the area from the northwest. We’re expecting rain, but the main question in the forecast is regarding the start time of the rain.

For now, I’m still thinking that there will be some scattered showers ahead of the front, with the best chance for rain occurring Friday night and Saturday morning. The atmospheric models that we look at are not consistent, but I still think that the football games should at least start dry. Having a rain jacket with you if you’re heading out to the games would still be a good idea.
The weekend will feature a second system quickly on the heels of the Friday/Saturday rainmaker, bringing additional precipitation chances on Sunday. It starts as rain, but as cold air invades the region from the north, the rain changes over to snow.

The chance for snow lasts into Monday before tapering off in all areas outside of the high elevation spots.

The snow may go away, but the cold air will stick around. Highs will be in the upper 30s on Monday and Tuesday before moderating a bit by the middle of next week.
