Nice weather today, but showers are on the way.

The warmup continues this evening, as temperatures are again quite a bit warmer tonight than they were at this time yesterday.
The rise is not as dramatic as it was between Sunday and Monday, but it is definitely noticeable. Lows tonight will be near the freezing mark in many areas, with lower to mid-20s in the higher elevations.
Tomorrow, it gets even warmer, and for the first time in a while, we’ll see above-normal temperatures. Some locations will be able to reach the 50-degree mark. If Beckley can get there (I think we’ll fall just shy), it will be the first time in three weeks to get to 50 degrees at the airport. The only downside is that there will be more clouds around compared to today. Lows tomorrow night will be above the freezing mark for most, a level that was unthinkable just a couple of days ago.
The next storm system arrives late Thursday and sticks around through Friday before moving towards the coast. Ahead of the front, highs will get into the 50s just about everywhere. There will be some decent moisture for this system to work with, and most of what we see will fall in the form of rain.
Later Thursday night and Friday morning, the precipitation will change over to snow as temperatures behind the front drop into the upper 20s. Not surprisingly, the changeover begins in the mountains, where a couple of inches of heavy, wet snow could pile up by Friday afternoon, but most areas will see at least a dusting of snow.
The weekend features another mixed bag of weather, similar to what we’ve seen on other weekends around the area. After a cool Friday, Saturday will be a great day, with highs around 50 and plenty of sunshine. Most of Sunday will be fine as well, but late Sunday evening, a chance for rain and snow is back in the forecast, and some of the precipitation could fall as freezing rain. Temperatures as we start the next traditional work week will be cooler, but still near the normal, as the really cold air remains bottled up to our north.
