OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – The weather has been pleasant today. Highs wound up in the upper 60s and lower 70s across most areas, with Beckley and Bluefield not even able to reach 70 degrees. It’s the first time in a couple of weeks that we’ve been this cool, and it’s quite a contrast to the mid-80s we sweltered in only a few days ago. Tonight, lows will drop into the lower to middle 40s in the usual colder spots, especially in the Greenbrier Valley. Even the cities along I-77 will see lows in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

Tomorrow will be another nice day, with plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will be slightly warmer than they wound up being this afternoon, mainly in the lower to middle 70s. We’ll see more clouds come into the area later tomorrow night.

Wednesday, a chance for showers returns to the forecast south of a warm front which will overspread the state from the southwest.

An isolated rumble of thunder is possible as well, but the main effect of the warm front will be to drive the high temperatures back into the lower 80s. There will also be a gusty southwesterly wind.
By Thursday, the cold frontal side of the storm that will push to our north moves through and will produce strong to severe storms as it does so. Possible limiting factors for the potential severe storms will be if any clouds keep the temperatures cooler and limit the heating available to fuel the storms. The types of severe weather that we get, if any, are also uncertain, but the main threats should be for damaging winds and large hail, with flooding rain possible as well since the system should have plenty of moisture from the Gulf to work with.

After the storm is gone, another stretch of cooler and drier weather is in the forecast, and that means a pleasant weekend for us. The next chance for rain will start off the next traditional work week.
