WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Spring will finally make its grand entrance into the state of West Virginia over the next week! However, it won’t reach into some of the higher elevations, including Spruce Knob. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:
Officials in Pendleton county have put out warnings regarding travel to Spruce Knob, the highest peak in the state. These warnings mainly target roads in the Monongahela National Forest, where roads are not plowed throughout the winter. Despite the warmer temperatures coming our way, winter still takes hold on the mountain tops.
If you are planning a trip to the peaks of West Virginia, officials advise travelers to avoid forest roads until April brings improved conditions. If travel on these roads is necessary, it is essential to have the following:
- 4 wheel drive
- Self-recovery equipment
- A travel group for added safety
Other roads mentioned around the area are Forest Roads 19 and 75 by Dolly Sods Wilderness, Highland Scenic Highway (State Route 150), and William’s River Road in Webster county.
