Good morning, Southern West Virginia! We’re waking up to fog across parts of our region today. Some communities are experiencing dense fog, while others are dealing with more patchy coverage. Thankfully, the fog is expected to mix out quickly after sunrise, giving us a few dry hours to start the day.
However, don’t get too comfortable—rain returns this afternoon. Thunderstorms are expected to develop across the area, and while most will be typical for this time of year, a few could become strong. Isolated gusty winds and hail are possible, especially in the more intense cells.
The Storm Prediction Center has expanded the Level 1 Marginal Risk for severe weather slightly farther south than previously forecast. Fayette, northern Raleigh, Greenbrier, Pocahontas, and Nicholas counties are included in this low-end threat. While widespread severe weather isn’t expected, residents in those areas should be prepared for the possibility of gusty winds and small hail.
Rain chances will dip slightly on Tuesday, offering a brief break before returning Wednesday and Thursday. The good news? Forecast trends suggest Friday and the weekend may bring drier, more pleasant weather—just in time for any outdoor plans.
Stay weather aware this afternoon, and keep the umbrella close!
