More hot days ahead but rain chances return for the rest of the week

It’s been a hot one today in southern West Virginia—one of the warmest days we’ve experienced all year! Alongside the heat, many of us noticed hazy skies this afternoon, thanks to lingering smoke drifting in from wildfires burning in Canada.

Looking ahead, daily rain chances return starting tomorrow, kicking off what looks to be another rainy week across the region. While not every day will be a washout, you’ll want to keep the umbrella nearby and plan for scattered showers and storms through the weekend.

Friday and Saturday appear to be the rainiest days of the forecast period, with the potential for some strong to severe thunderstorms by Friday. As of now, the main threats with any severe storms would be hail and gusty winds.

Temperatures will remain above average through midweek, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, before cooling down this weekend. With rain in the forecast, outdoor-only plans may need to be flexible—keep an eye on the sky and have a backup plan just in case a storm moves in.
