Matt Boyd named Oak Hill baseball head coach

WOAY – Matt Boyd has been named the new head coach of Oak Hill High School baseball, following the Fayette County Board of Education meeting this week.

Boyd will succeed Dan Poland, who resigned earlier this summer to take an assistant principal position at the high school. Per Fayette County rules, one cannot be both an administrator and an athletic coach.

Boyd brings experience as both an assistant and head coach in multiple sports at Oak Hill, Fayetteville, and Greenbrier West. He was the head boys basketball coach at Fayetteville when they reached the state tournament in both 2016 & 2017; the Pirates were undefeated in the 2016-17 regular season.

Oak Hill baseball won a Class AA sectional title in 2019, but will move to Class AAA in 2021 due to the recent WVSSAC reclassification.
