WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Isolated showers will come into the area through the day thanks to moisture from the southeast, dropping around a tenth of an inch with a few spots getting more through the day. The rain will leave after tonight thanks to high pressure pushing moisture out and Imelda veering back to sea. These factors compound for another extensive dry streak across the region. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:
A majority of the area is already under at least a moderate drought, and not much relief is on the way. This drought will only be enhanced with the dry streak coming up, and I expect it to expand by next Thursday. We have gotten some decent rain, but not enough to relieve the drought completely. The extra tenth to a quarter of an inch we’ll get today won’t be enough to make much of a dent either. This also coincides with the start of the autumn fire season, beginning tomorrow. Fire risk will be increasing as we continue to stay dry. Make sure to follow the yearly daytime burn ban and put out any fires you start before sunrise. Here’s a look at the latest Drought Monitor:

The temperatures cool down a bit on Thursday thanks to the cooler high pressure before warming back up into the mid-70s for the weekend. Not a drop of rain will be seen in the extended forecast after today, leading to elevated fire risk for this weekend. We definitely need rain, but this is also a good time to enjoy the nicer weather to start off the new month. Here’s your 7-Day Forecast:
