WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Morning conditions are slightly warmer in the western half than the eastern half, but temperatures will become more uniform later. There will be a notable lack of fog for most, ensuring a smoother morning commute. Today will be slightly warmer than yesterday as temperatures reach into the lower 80s this afternoon. Mostly sunny skies will keep things calm and comfortable throughout the day, so make sure to get out and enjoy. You’ll need sun protection and water if you plan to stay outside for an extended period. This calmer pattern will be disrupted tomorrow afternoon as a low-pressure system pushes towards the area slowly. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest forecast:
Friday morning will start calmly, but conditions will decline as we head into the afternoon and evening. Scattered thunderstorms and showers could show up as early as the mid-afternoon hours. The low-pressure system will take its time to get here, eventually bringing widespread rain overnight through Sunday morning. Saturday will be the worst day in terms of rain, with a majority of rain falling for the first day of the weekend. Rainfall will be lighter with a general half inch to an inch expected. However, with the rainfall we previously endured this week, the risk for flooding is a concern. Areas that are low-lying or known trouble spots could end up ponding or flooding if rainfall becomes heavy enough. Rain will eventually dissipate Sunday afternoon, but the weather rollercoaster does not stop there.
A heat dome will begin to form above the eastern half of the nation, bringing drier weather and well above average temperatures for much of next week. Temperatures will rise to the mid- to upper 80s on Monday, eventually breaking 90 degrees on Wednesday. These conditions will not be great for those sensitive to heat, and everyone should have sun protection and water when heading outside for an extended period. These conditions will also hinder drought recovery a bit, which is not great news. After the rain we have gotten, we at least have a little wiggle room.
