Weekend Outlook: Stormy weather ahead

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We’re tracking some showers and storms making their way through the area this evening. While some of the storms are expected to be heavy and possibly severe, the real concern is for flooding. This is especially true in areas that saw heavy rain on Monday. There is an impressive amount of moisture from the Gulf for these storms to work with. We’ll get a break later tonight, but the moist and mild feel to the night will persist. Lows will be in the mid-60s.

Tomorrow will feature more chances for showers and storms in a similar setup to this evening. Once again, the moisture content with these storms is high enough to allow for rainfall rates over 2 inches per hour, meaning flooding is once again a strong possibility.

There will also be a chance for severe storms, and if any of the storms do become severe, damaging winds will be the main threat. The chance for large hail or tornadoes is very small.

With the extra cloud cover, temperatures will be a shade cooler, topping out in the middle to upper 70s. If any sun does break out, it will be warmer, but the atmosphere will be less stable, and any storms that develop will be more intense. Lows tomorrow night will be similar to where they’ll be tonight, generally in the mid-60s.

The second half of the weekend will also feature showers and storms, but the chances will be smaller and will mainly be early in the day. As the day goes on, the cool front will push far enough south that the skies will clear out a bit. The extra sunshine will drive temperatures to around the 80-degree mark.
