OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was a nice day today around the region, with temperatures back to around the normal and a mix of sun and clouds. The flow has turned around to the west and southwest, and in addition to the warmer temperatures, the humidity is up a bit as well. A few additional clouds will fill the skies tonight, but it should still be a good night overall. Lows will be in the lower 60s.
Tomorrow will start nice enough, with more sunshine mixed in with clouds. Temperatures will again be a shade warmer than they were today, similar to how today was slightly warmer than yesterday. As the day goes on, we come under the influence of a cool front that will push into the area. The front will trigger some showers and storms, and some of these could be on the strong side, with gusty winds representing the main threat.
There could also be heavy rain, as there will be plenty of moisture for these storms to work with. Just like we saw on Monday, if there are persistent rains, there could be flooding issues. The Weather Prediction Center has placed areas along and to the west of the spine of the Appalachians under a level 2 out of 4 risk of rain that could cause flash flooding. This is especially true in those parts of Raleigh, Wyoming, and Fayette Counties that saw so much rain a few days ago.
The chance for storms really picks up on Saturday and lasts into Sunday before ending. After it is gone, the other major story in the forecast takes over, and that’s the first summer heat wave of the season. Highs will be in the mid-80s on Monday and in the upper 80s to lower 90s from Tuesday until the end of the extended forecast. Take precautions if you have to be outside during the afternoon hours. It will be dry as well, except for some possible thunderstorms that break the atmospheric cap during the heat of the day.
