Sutton, WV (WOAY)- State authorities are investigating a bizarre accident where an impaired driver struck a couple that was having dinner.
On Saturday, June 7, around 5:00 p.m., West Virginia State Police, Sutton Detachment troopers responded to a serious crash at 101 North Hill Road.
Investigators say 57-year-old Marilee C. McKenzie of Lucasville, Ohio, was behind the wheel of a Cadillac sedan when she left the roadway, slamming into the front porch of an apartment where two people were having dinner.
Both victims were hurt and taken to Braxton County Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
One of the victims, a 44-year-old pregnant woman, suffered a severe leg laceration.
Thankfully, doctors say she will make a full recovery, and her unborn baby is okay.
Officers arrested McKenzie at the scene, and she now faces a felony DUI charge for causing serious bodily injury, as well as a misdemeanor DUI charge.
She remains in custody at the Central Regional Jail, awaiting arraignment in Braxton County.
The victims’ names are not being released at this time.
State police say the investigation is ongoing.
