Hit or Miss Showers/Storms Next Week

A pretty nice day today across Southern West Virginia. Temperatures soared into the 70’s and 80’s for some of us while remaining mostly dry. The chance for a shower or two does exist as we head toward the overnight hours with some more rain possible Monday and Tuesday.

Wednesday, however, is one of the most likely days that we receive rain. Here is a look at the European model at 2PM on Wednesday, that shows some darker greens across our region, indicating the potential for some decently heavy rain. Taking a look at Friday morning, it appears that we have another strong chance of rain with it potenitally being heavy at times as well. Yesterday, this model showed that rain coming through Saturday instead, and has since shifted a little earlier. We will continue to track that to see if it sticks with Friday, or slows down until Saturday again.

Here is a look at the European model over the next 7 days that shows pretty good rain falling across the Sotuhern Coalfields, and Nicholas County. This trend has been consistent in placing over the last couple of days. The Greenbrier Valley getting a little bit less than the Coalfields. The GFS model has less rain than the European, but still highlights very similar areas recieving the highest amounts.

Here is a look at that 7 day forecast that shows the potential for rain does exist every day in that timeframe. Some days are more likely than others, like we alluded to earlier in this post. Not everyone see’s widespread rain each day though, the heaviest rainfall totals will fall wherever thunderstorms can form. We will have enough energy in the atmosphere to promote thunderstorms each day, although that’s still not a guarantee.
