Former FCI Beckley guard sentenced for smuggling drugs

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – A former corrections officer at FCI Beckley has been sentenced to a year and a half in prison for giving an inmate contraband.

Cody Adam Bays, a 32-year-old man from Beaver, smuggled drugs like suboxone, marijuana, and tobacco into the prison.

He also tried to smuggle fentanyl into the prison, but he sampled it, leading to an overdose.

He made over $20,000 from the illegal activity.

Because Bays was paid through cash or an electronic money exchange service, he became part of a multi-state drug trafficking criminal operation.

Bays will also face three years of supervised release.
